 Drengal's first assignment as an ensign was the Starfleet liaison to the local population of the planet Pacficia, where he acted as diplomat and mediator with the local sentient aquatic population. As a Xindi-aquatic, Pacifica was his native home world, and as a specialist in non-humanoid psychology, gained experience in interactions with humanoid land-dwellers during this first assignment. It was this talent and skill that served Drengal during his later assignments, as he was able to bridge the gap between species that we under-represented in the fleet and the mostly human population within the ranks of Starfleet.  Eventually, as more vessels were built to accommodate ocean-dwelling species, Drengal found his services as a counselor's assistant were needed to help acclimate other aquatic species to lifestyle adaptations aboard deep space exploration vessels.  Drengal was assigned as junior counselor aboard the newly-launched Luna Class USS Republic (NCC-81371) during her maiden voyage.
