Sven double-majored in science and engineering while attending Starfleet Academy, allowing him more flexibility in his career and he is qualified to fulfill the role of a science officer or engineering specialist. After graduating from the academy, Sven was immediately stationed at the front lines of the Dominion conflict, serving as the chief maintenance engineer for the 85th squadron, 7th fleet. Originally a Life Sciences officer aboard the Galaxy class USS Republic (NCC-76241), Sven transferred back to engineering to fill the vacant Environmental Systems Specialist position. His background in biology and computers made him ideal for this job, and his curious, sometimes inadvertently intrusive personality provided him much needed background information on any project he undertook.  Sven served on the Galaxy class Republic until it's destruction during the Remnant Attacks of stardate 58851, after which, he was assigned elsewhere in the fleet.
