Saal was a no-nonsense veteran surgeon of Starfleet with specialties in emergency medicine and bionics. Not afraid to voice his point of view in any given situation, Doctor Yezbeck tended to place his patients and personal morality ahead of any repercussions that might occur due to his actions. Unafraid of high-brass, Saal tended to shrug off any possibility that he might have been making waves in the command structure of other departments.  After the Remnant Attacks of stardate 58851, Saal retired from Starfleet.  Following a divorce from his wife, he moved to Risa to settle down and live his post-Starfleet years in relative comfort until he was enlisted by an old friend from his Republic days, Chief Intelligence Officer [[Douglas Forrest]], to assist him on several clandestine missions.
