As Republic's only non-corporeal crew member, Mahlenoy spends all of his time in the Medusan navigation suite in the ship's operations center, as contact with the rest of the humanoid crew would cause permanent psychosis. Graduating from Starfleet's curriculum for non-humanoid species, Mahlenoy follows in the footsteps of earlier Medusan navigators who were instrumental in allowing the Federation to explore the vastness of known space. The species-related ability to guide a vessel through unknown space prevents a vessel from becoming lost in the infinite vastness of the cosmos. A youngster by Medusan standards, Mahlenoy is very eager to help the Republic in any way possible. Main communication with the crew occurs through text messaging, normally to the navigation console on the bridge where the on-duty helm officer remains in constant contact.
